Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) supports the draining of excess fluid after surgery and prevents extension of the fibrotic induration (scar tissue).

why doctors recommend MLD after surgery?

MLD is frequently recommended by plastic surgeons during the recovery phase following cosmetic surgery / liposuction (e.g. tummy tucks). MLD supports the draining of excess fluid after surgery and prevents extension of the fibrotic induration (scar tissue). Excessive fibrosis may restrict motion or produce feelings of tightness, and may even be visually noticeable.

MLD may decrease pain, sensitivity and touch-avoidance by speeding up the rate of healing and providing gentle and pleasing massage. It also reduces swelling and bruising, increases the removal of cellular debris and other waste from the area and reduces local inflammation. In addition, wearing the correct sized compression garment will help speed up the healing process.

For best results, recommended that care be initiated in the first few days following surgery (within the first 5 days).

“Feeling very blessed to have found Asako.
I’ve been seeing her for Manual Lymphatic Drainage post Liposuction and it’s made a world of difference to my recovery. Not only have I left each session feeling 110% better, I’ve also left feeling a little more educated on how I can continue to manage my recovery at home. She’s professional and incredibly caring in her approach to massage therapy and I couldn’t recommend her highly enough.”
