Manual Lymphatic Drainage(MLD) is beneficial for anyone with fluid issues.
The Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) treatment is a delicate, light form treatment favouring the stimulation of lymph nodes to promote better flow. It is based on light, rhythmic and constant movements.
Unlike blood, the lymph is not pumped by the heart. It moves slowly due to stimulation as you breathe, by muscle contractions and under skin pressure. The lymph is a whitish liquid flowing throughout the body inside lymph vessels. They collect waste and toxins that cannot be absorbed through blood capillary vessels. At certain points called nodes, the lymph is cleaned. Nodes are found in the groin, underarm and neck, in the vein angle formed by the jugular and sub clavicular veins, the main point for draining our body of toxins and liquids.
The following are a list of health benefits related to lymph massage:
Lymphoedema
MLD is helping to collect and eliminate protein rich fluids and debris from the body. MLD is the one of the most important treatments for Lymphoedema.
Oedema (Fluid retention on legs, feet and hands)
Our bodies are composed of around 50-60% cent water. Fluid retention occurs when the veins and lymph vessels cannot effectively remove water from the tissues. MLD is helpful in reducing oedema because it stimulates blood flow, fluid movement and lymphatic system function.
Drainage is very effective in both cases, but as a preventive method. The hormonal changes during pregnancy determine liquid retention and a decrease in the tonus of the vein and lymph vessels. The drainage can be started beginning with the third pregnancy month and made till delivery. MLD is very effective treatment for pregnancy oedema. You will find it reduces oedema from the first treatment. It is also effective against the swelling experienced by many women a few days before menstruation.
Pregnancy and PMS syndrome
For patients suffering from acne, the skin is inflamed, accompanied generally by liquid retained amongst the skin cells. The depurative and draining effect of the MLD technique gradually decreases the inflammation and the oedemas, leading to a more rapid cure/relief of inflamation.
Acne
MLD will focus on the neck and head. If there is tension in the neck muscles, this will be released.
After the session, clients report significant reduction in headaches, ear aches and face pain; as well as reduced tenderness around the glands in the throat. Stuffiness and congestion can be permanently relieved in as few as two or three sessions.
Sinus Conditions
MLD is effective for getting rid of oedemas and hematomas and boosting tissue regeneration following a surgery. If during the scarring process of a wound, interstitial liquid accumulates forming an oedema, a hypertrophic (keloid, swollen) scar forms. The lymph draining has a "planning" effect on the scar, even in older ones, because it activates the lymphocytes, involved in reconstructing the tissue.
